Partnerships
Energy Tech is a collaboration between the New York City Department of Education, the City University of New York, LaGuardia Community College, Con Edison, and National Grid. The school was launched in response to the demand for skilled professionals in some of the fastest-growing sectors of our economy. Energy Tech is part of a movement of schools focused on creating innovative pathways to college and employment, and also on building a sustainable pipeline of STEM talent for our local industry.
Energy Tech was planned and continues to be developed by a team of professionals from across all partnerships. Teachers, professors, industry professionals, and leaders come together on a regular basis to plan and revise curriculum, develop unique college and career programming, and refine a scope and sequence of high school classes, college coursework, and career-readiness activities aligned with the needs of our local energy industry. Our partners provide guidance about the specific skills that our students will need to access college and the jobs that will be available upon graduation. They are involved with and supportive of all aspects of our school’s development, and we are grateful for their engagement.
Some of the specific activities our students have participated in through our partnerships so far include:
- Series of exciting hands-on demonstrations to build awareness of the kinds of careers available in our local industry
- Guest speakers in classes, as well as an executive panel and moderated discussion for students and families
- Monthly field trips to labs and learning centers to learn more about the environment of work, the skills required for specific jobs, and more
- Small-group mentorship provided by leaders and professionals
- Sponsorship of our FRC Robotics team
- Invitations to special events for our students
