Early College
The CUNY Early College Initiative (ECI) designs, develops, and supports schools that make earning a college degree more accessible, affordable, and attainable. ECI promotes social and economic mobility by restructuring the educational experience for students who are traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
For more information, e-mail Tyleah Castillo, Early College Liaison, at tcastillo@energytechhs.org. You may also visit the Early College Intitiative at CUNY website.
Our students will take college classes as early as 10th grade, and they will learn not only in our high school classrooms, but also on the college campus and in real workplace situations—learning alongside and getting feedback from teachers, professors, and engineers. Students begin by taking “general” coursework before moving into energy- and engineering-focused classes. Some of the first college courses that students at Energy Tech take are in critical thinking, upper-level mathematics, English composition, and physical sciences. Later in the program, students take coursework in circuit theory, fluid dynamics, computer logic and design, AutoCAD, materials science, electromechanical devices, and much more. Early in the program, students take college classes taught by professors on our campus in our designated lecture hall, but over time much of their coursework will happen on our nearby partner college campus.
